Creating a two level art gallery for Vitra, emphasis was placed on exhibiting Vitra manufactured chairs as well as a temporary exhibit for a designer of my choosing, Alexander Girard. Wrapped banners of Girard’s textile designs surround the exhibition and are interlaced with folk art images from his own collection. Information on Girard is placed on panels facing the Vitra collection of chairs which serve as an interactive display that allow guests to sit and view designer exhibitions and try Vitra chairs first hand. The gallery also includes a reception area, coat check, gift shop, office, storage and cafeteria. The upper level has a bridge leading from the stairs to the cafeteria, allowing a view of the entrance and exhibition. The gift shop sits below the bridge with shelving on tracks to accommodate the needs of rotating exhibitions.
